Buddhist lists
This page is from my personal notes, and has not been specifically reviewed for public consumption. It might be incomplete, wrong, outdated, or stupid. Caveat lector.The Buddha really liked lists. For example:
- the three refuges (the buddha, the dharma, and the sangha)
- the three characteristics
- the four noble truths
- the noble eight-fold path
- the four immeasurables
- the five hindrances
- the seven factors of awakening
- the ten fetters
- the four stages of enlightenment
It's easy to get lost in these. Rather than a bunch of individual lists, I think it's helpful to see them as connected. Some lists contain other lists, forming a tree structure:
