25 career goals

This page is from my personal notes, and has not been specifically reviewed for public consumption. It might be incomplete, wrong, outdated, or stupid. Caveat lector.
  • Warren Buffett suggests the exercise of writing down 25 career goals. Then choose the five most important. Then avoid at all costs numbers 6-25. They are tempting, but they are distractions.
  • I don't feel like I have a focused list of these yet. Here's an in-progress attempt, in no particular order:
    1. Write something that connects with a sizable number of people.
      • Could be influential research. But more likely, this is teaching---explanation, or life advice, or reflections, opinion, or at the outside perhaps stories or music.
    2. Build something that creates demonstrable economic value to the world.
      • Could be a PPL. Or some sort of company or practice around AI.
    3. Figure out how to do probabilistic inference well 'in most cases', like SAT solvers (general purpose is of course P#-complete).
    4. Make real improvements to the practice of drug discovery and development.
    5. Bring an effective computational life coach into the world.
