my goals
This page is from my personal notes, and has not been specifically reviewed for public consumption. It might be incomplete, wrong, outdated, or stupid. Caveat lector.- I want to intentionally spend my time well.
- I remember back in grad school I would spend evenings reading papers, just as a form of growth towards who I wanted to be.
- Towards the end I stopped. I allowed myself to take more and more time as 'self-care' or 'me' time. I'd spend that time doing really low-value things---reading Twitter, etc. I think that was fine, in the spirit of self-love, but I always wanted it to be temporary.
- Even at work, I've given up on trying to optimize how I spend my time to achieve goals. I just zone out on writing code. I don't think too hard about what my larger goals are or how to achieve them. I don't even think that hard about whether there's a way around whatever stupid thing I'm trying to do at this very moment. I've unlearned some of my grad school habits around planning work carefully. (I wasn't good at that, necessarily, but at least I tried).
- As my life allows me more freedom and agency, I should aim to spend less and less of my time in low-agency states.
