moral realism

This page is from my personal notes, and has not been specifically reviewed for public consumption. It might be incomplete, wrong, outdated, or stupid. Caveat lector.

There is a connection between moral realism and belief in qualia. If you see "experience" (awareness) as a real, fundamental aspect of existence, then it is a short step to the idea that experience of suffering is real and is bad in itself. On the other hand, if "experience" and "suffering" are just ways of speaking about things, models with no particular privilege, then they can't imply a particular privileged moral system.
