job goals
This page is from my personal notes, and has not been specifically reviewed for public consumption. It might be incomplete, wrong, outdated, or stupid. Caveat lector. From 2017:
- stay publicly active. work on open side projects, and/or publish, and/or blog.
- live at such a means that I could lose my job and be fine for at least a year (i.e., live on <50% of posttax salary).
- become friends-ish with everyone I work with.
- come up with a long term goal/vision to work towards. ideally something that involves staying up with the research literature in CS. REMEMBER I ALREADY HAVE A PHD. That is, I might work on something 'basic' (RL, deep learning for vision, etc) from which it could be a good path to go get a PhD in stuff I've learned from that area. But I've already gained many of the soft skills of a PhD and if I want to read up in the literature and start talking to people and doing research in an area I should just do it!
