grief is depression
This page is from my personal notes, and has not been specifically reviewed for public consumption. It might be incomplete, wrong, outdated, or stupid. Caveat lector.- When someone we love dies, a sense of possibility leaves the world.
- Our grief is usually proportional to how much we cared about them---literally, how much of our own sense of purpose was tied up in taking care of them, or helping them be happy. A good relationship grants you a sense of purpose. Having kids grants a sense of purpose. Losing that purpose is the defining attribute of depression. Depression is the absence of goals.
