ceteris paribus
This page is from my personal notes, and has not been specifically reviewed for public consumption. It might be incomplete, wrong, outdated, or stupid. Caveat lector.- Other things held equal.
- Abstract reasoning is good for coming to 'ceteris paribus' conclusions. It's easy to identify one force acting in the system. But the system in reality doesn't always behave as you'd expect, because in reality there are many forces operating (part of why we need many models). Some may work orthogonally to your conclusion, and some may work against it.
