AI is just tech
This page is from my personal notes, and has not been specifically reviewed for public consumption. It might be incomplete, wrong, outdated, or stupid. Caveat lector. Most 'AI' in business domains doesn't have any intellectual relationship to AGI research.
In the vast majority of problem spaces, what you need is a database, some business logic, and maybe linear regression. This is 'artificial intelligence' in the sense that it can do work that previously would have required a human. It reaps the advantages of software: unlimited scale at near-zero marginal cost, infinite endurance, and the ability to aggregate and cross-reference more information than any individual human ever could.
Even in more sophisticated contexts, 'financial AI' or 'medical AI' or 'chemical AI' are all narrow systems. They build a specific model and validate it for a specific task.
